Things are beginning to look promising around here. While grinding away in the boatyard yesterday I heard some good reports of the boats that were fishing. Of the 5 boats out fishing, 4 saw blue marlins and 1 boat was lucky enough to catch and release one. The only fish I heard the size of was the one that was caught by a local boat, Hawk Eye, which they estimated to be between 650 and 700 pounds.
All of us in the boatyard are pretty optimistic at this point and as the days in the yard diminish, we can hardly wait to have something of our own the contribute to the report. It sounds like there are some fish in La Gomera as well which is only 300 miles south of Madeira. Once the water warms just a bit it could be biting like last year or maybe even the heydays of the '90s.
I'll keep the reports coming as I hear them.
