Shimano Introduces New Products at 2010 ICAST
Wednesday, 14 July 2010 by Melton Tackle
Shimano's ICAST booth has been buzzing with buyers and media alike, looking to catch a glimpse of their newest offerings. By the look of things, they did not disappoint. Some products are fresh and new while some are updates and next generation versions.
Shimano Waxwing Jigs | Shimano Terez Rods | Shimano Trinidad A Reels | New Talica 20II & 25II Reels | Shimano Shallow Water Butterfly Jigs | Shimano Thunnus CI4 Spinning Reels | Shimano Curado 300EJ Reel IN STOCK!
Shimano Waxwing Jigs look radically different than anything on the market today. These patent pending subsurface jigs swim with a kick that absolutely drives fish nuts. Though the kick is reminiscent of our beloved iron jigs, the look is a radical departure. Shimano Waxwing Jigs derive the seductive zigzag motion from the upper wing, while the lower wing acts as a rudder to prevent rolling. Fishing the Shimano Waxwing Jig is extremely easy. Simply cast and reel in. That's it. Shimano Waxwing Subsurface Jigs
The Melton Tackle staff has had the opportunity to field test these the Waxwing Jigs with great success off the Southern California coast. These lures are very durable and feature a paint finish that holds up quite well to fish bites, rocks, etc. The Waxwing Jigs feature incredibly sharp double tinned Owner hooks.
One of the amazing attributes to this lure is the fact that kelp and structure tangles are far and few between due to the fact that the hooks are upward facing versus a traditional iron jig that features a treble hook or single siwash hook. In our field testing, not one lure was lost in kelp or seaweed.
Shimano has introduced two sizes of the Waxwing Jigs - 'Boy' (88mm) and 'Jr' (118mm). Click HERE to order and/or learn more about Shimano Waxwing Jigs Anticipated Delivery - Mid-September
The most comprehensive product unveiling has to be the introduction of the Shimano Terez Rod series. These rods are truly unique and a big departure from traditional fishing rods as we now know them. First Impressions
Visually, the first thing anglers will notice are the rod color options. Shimano has taken into account the most popular boat hull colors and incorporated them into this new series. For the very first time (that we're aware of), a major fishing manufacturer has produced a series of rods in different color options. Shimano Terez Rods are available in 5 colors; Aqua, Emerald Green, Fighting Lady Yellow, Pearl White and Sunset Red. Shimano Terez Rods are available in a wide range of sizes to accommodate a huge variety of angling situations, so theoretically a boat owner or angler can match his/her set with identical rods whereas the only way to accomplish this in the past was with custom built sticks.

Secondly, anglers will notice that Shimano Terez rod blanks are extremely thin in diameter. Simply put, these aren't your grandpa's broomsticks. Though thin, they feature a very strong backbone, allowing anglers to put a large amount of heat on a fish with little if any angler fatigue. To accomplish this, Shimano's employed their TC4 construction that is currently utilized in their highly popular Trevala Jigging Rods.

Shimano Terez Rods feature durable EVA grips and custom aluminum skeletonized reel seats with the exception of Terez Waxwing Rods which come standard with cork grips and Fuji reel seats.
Models and Applications
There are a dizzying array of Shimano Terez Rods being offered, 33 models to be exact. Couple that with 5 colors for each model, it makes 165 model-color possibilities. By no means a small task for a manufacturer to accomplish.
On the conventional front, 15 Terez Rods are available for angling situations as light as fishing an anchovy 20 lb. to as heavy as fishing for monster tuna with 80 lb. and everything in between. Here's the breakdown:
For spinning tackle, there are nine models to choose from. Included in their offerings for the Terez Spinning Rods are the long awaited debut of popping rods.
Shimano Terez Waxwing Rods were produced specifically to fish the new Shimano Waxwing Jigs. They are available in nine models. Terez Waxwing Rods
