Melton Tackle Long Range Rail Rod Combos - developed on the Long Range sport boats fishing out of San Diego targeting large Yellowfin tuna. These boats are in the 100’ range and carry groups of fishermen to destinations off the Mexican coast known to be the home of giant Yellowfin Tuna. These fish are caught while standing and require special gear designed to allow the angler to put maximum pressure on the fish. Rail rods were specifically developed to use the rocking motion of the boat to aid in landing these fish. The rod is laid on the rail of the boat just above the reel, when the boat rocks away from the fish the rod lifts the fish, when the boat rocks back toward the fish, pressure is reduced allowing line to be retrieved onto the reel. Rail rods are 6 ½ to 7’ in length, have a reinforced lower section, and are built with a parabolic action to absorb shock, while maintaining lifting power.
Our custom rods are built in our rod shop where the finest rods in the world are produced. We hand inspect each rod blank, then begin assembly using the best materials and adhesives for long lasting care free performance.
Our custom Rail Series rods are fitted with Fuji HB SiN series guides and tops. Silicon Nitride Series II (SiN) rings are deep pressed into Black Stainless Steel HB guide frames to protect and hold secure the guide ring. Silicon Nitride is the same material used to make ball bearings for Jet Engines, it is extremely hard and heat dissipating, excellent for use with new generation braided lines. The HB frames are a high frame design with a smooth transition between the foot and frame for tangle free casting. Handle grips are extended Hypalon to reduce fatigue; reelseats and gimbals are machined in the U.S. of marine grade aluminum and hard anodized, built to last. The guides are machine wrapped under precise tension and then the wraps are hand finished with several coats of UV resistant, flexible epoxy resin.
We've taken the work out for you and put together some fantastic Long Range Rail Rod combos!
